JPD, sheriff tell results of special traffic enforcement

The Greene County sheriff’s office and the Jefferson police department participated in a special Traffic Enforcement Project (sTEP) from Nov. 24-30, with an emphasis on seat belt usage and an increased presence on roadways.

The JPD wrote 15 citations and issued 63 warnings as follows: operating while intoxicated- two citations; seat belt usage- one citation, seven warnings; speed- three citations, four warnings; stop sign/light violation- two warnings; driving while license suspended or revoked- three citations; registration violations- one citation, 10 warnings;  dark windows- one citation, three warnings; other traffic violations- three citations, four warnings; equipment violations- one citation, 24 warnings; no proof of insurance- six warnings; and move over violations- two warnings.

Sheriff’s deputies issued citations and warnings as follows: seat belt usage- two warnings; speed- seven citations, 12 warnings; failure to obey stop sign- one citation; equipment violation- one warning; and no insurance- one citation, one warning.

Deputies responded to two accidents with property damage and assisted with one OWI.
